Let's Give the Ultimate Gift to Our Children: Clean Air

As parents, we try to make safe and healthy choices for our children on a daily basis, but what do we do if the air we breathe is putting them at risk?
What toxins are in our air?According to Moms Clean Air Force:Mercury is a potent neurotoxin that is given off by coal-fired plants in the United States. It can harm fetuses and the developing brains of young children.

American coal plants produce 386,000 tons of hazardous air pollutants every year. These poisons affect every part of the human body, leading to disease, birth defects, brain damage, premature death and cancers. Children are especially vulnerable.

Arsenic, chromium and nickel cause cancer.
Lead damages the nervous system.
Acid gases irritate the nose and throat.
Dioxins affect the reproductive endocrine and immune systems.
Volatile organic compounds weaken lungs and eyes.
Are these toxins really allowed to be in our air? These toxins have never been limited by the Environmental Protection Agency UNTIL NOW!Moms Clean Air Force explains:

On Wednesday, March 16, the Environmental Protection Agency introduced a rule called Mercury and Air Toxics Standards. This is the first-ever national policy created to reduce mercury emissions from the electricity sector. Once the rule is published, it is open for 60 days for public comment.

What can I do???Support the new air toxics rule by signing this petition on the Environmental Defense Action Fund's site!
