Peter Pan: Baby's Amazing 1st Theater Experience

Yesterday evening, 17 month old Baby received a very exciting early Christmas present. We took him to see the Boston performance of the threesixty stage production of PETER PAN. And what a Christmas present it was!

I wish I could have taken a video of Baby's face as he watched the performance because it would be the best possible promotion for PETER PAN. He was absolutely captivated for the entire two and a half hour show.
I knew that PETER PAN would be a very special theater experience with its puppets, flying sequences, state of the art theater tent space, and 360 degree CGI theater set, but I honestly did not expect a 17 month old toddler to sit through the entire production. Not only did Baby sit through it, I think Baby believed he was actually part of Peter Pan's world! In the beginning of the play when an off screen voice shouted, "No, no!", Baby yelled out, "No, no!" too. When Wendy tried to sew Peter Pan's shadow on to his foot, Baby took his shoes off to touch his feet too. When Nanny the dog (an adorable puppet) barked, Baby barked with her, and when the impressive crocodile puppet appeared, Baby growled. He couldn't stop pointing at the swimming fish in the underwater sequence, and he loved the gently swaying trees of Neverland.

It was very special for me to take Baby to PETER PAN for his first theater experience because Peter Pan on Broadway was my first theater experience when I was three years old. I vividly remember scenes from that show, and I'm so happy Baby could have such a downright magical first theater experience too.
Whether Peter Pan has sentimental value for you or not, I do have to issue a warning to parents: You will miss parts of this show because you won't want to take your eyes off of your child's captivated and amazed face.
I really couldn't recommend threesixty's production of PETER PAN more as a family theater experience. I don't know how any child - or adult - wouldn't love the big tent experience with the CGI movie screen on the ceiling and the actors flying all over. Every aspect of the theater experience is family friendly: the concession stands sells yummy items like PB&J sandwiches, macaroons, cookies, and chocolate dipped spoons for drinks, as well as healthy snacks like veggie focaccia sandwiches; theater workers wear sparkly wings on their backs; and you can hear the laughter and appreciation of children of all ages throughout the performance.
