October is the ninth annual Fair Trade Month, and in honor of this, I would like to share three ways to make smarter shopping choices. We all want to save money, but the following shopping choices will also enhance your health, provide you with quality products, and allow you to help the lives of your family members, as well as the lives of people around the world.
1. Buy fair trade. When you buy fair trade, you are bettering the lives of other people. It's as simple as that. In addition, you are making a choice that will help to protect the environment and to empower women.
What kinds of products are available through Fair Trade?- Cotton- Coffee and tea- Cocoa- Herbs and spices- Sugar- Produce
Remember the Fair Trade motto: Every purchase matters!Visit this post on the Fair Trade web site to learn about 10 EASY WAYS TO CELEBRATE FAIR TRADE MONTH IN OCTOBER.
2. Shop the farmers' market.Michelle from Everything's Abuzz gives great advice about why you should shop the farmers' market here, but to sum it up:- You help the environment by cutting down on the transportation and packaging of food;- You get to know the farmers in your area. What would this world be without our farmers?- You're helping to build your own community.
3. Buy organic. This is the most important shopping decision I make each week for my family. By buying organic:- We avoid dangerous chemical pesticides in our food;- We ensure that our food does not contain GMO's;- We keep unnecessary antibiotics and synthetic hormones out of our bodies.
why it is worth it to buy organic.
Do you typically buy organic, fair trade, or local? Why or why not?
