Book Giveaway: "Salad People" - Healthy recipes to make with your toddler or preschooler
I was thrilled that Baby received a copy of Salad People and More Real Recipes: A New Cookbook for Preschoolers and Up for Christmas. This cookbook is written by Mollie Katzen, the author of Pretend Soup and Other Real Recipes: A Cookbook for Preschoolers and Up
and the vegetarian classic, The New Moosewood Cookbook (Mollie Katzen's Classic Cooking)
.
Eighteen month old Baby is very drawn to the kitchen. He loves playing with the kitchen items in "his" drawers and helping up prepare food in any way he can. Now that Baby has a learning tower to help him help us safely in kitchen, having a cookbook like Salad People is perfect for us.
The book includes 20 recipes such as Corny Corn Cake, Polka Dot Rice, Broccoli Cheese Quiche, Salad People, Cool Cucumber Soup, Chewy Energy Circles, and Rainbow-Raisin Cole Slaw. Each recipe has two pages dedicated to the grown up with recipe reviews, cooking hints, safety tips, tools needed for children, and the actual recipe. Each recipe also has two pages dedicated to the child with the recipe written out in boxed steps. They are clearly numbered with simple instructions and obvious illustrations, so your child does not have to know how to read to follow along.
I love Salad People because:- It provides 20 different ways to engage in a creative and learning-based indoor activity with your little one. This is especially helpful now that the frigid temperatures are here!
- It helps your child build confidence and learn important life skills.
- It focuses on healthy but fun recipes that seem appealing even for the pickiest of eaters.
- It helps your toddler or preschooler develop more awareness of where food comes from and its importance to our lives.
