3 Easy Foods to Feed Your Toddler When He Has a Diminished Appetite

My poor little guy recently had Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease, and the sores in his mouth really affected his appetite for a while. This was a wake up call for us to become more creative with the meals we were offering him because to be honest, we had it pretty easy up until this point. Baby has enjoyed eating a variety of foods and trying new things ever since we started Baby Led Weaning back when he was 7 months old, so at 12 months, it was a shocker to have him shake his head no in response to being offered all of his favorite foods.sick baby
Luckily, we have added 3 new foods to Baby's weekly menu, and they have provided us with a very easy way to make sure he is getting lots of important nutrients - even with a diminished appetite.
1. Green SmoothiesBaby is absolutely loving a variety of green smoothie recipes that I have been creating. You can find so many recipes for them on the internet. I recommend trying these green smoothie recipes from Brenna at Almost All the Truth.baby drinks a green smoothie
Baby's 2 favorite green smoothies use the following ingredients. I don't really measure when I cook, but you can use approximately one cup of each of these ingredients with the exception of the milk additive for which I use about a cup and a half.
Spinach Smoothie- Frozen chopped spinach- Strawberries (frozen or fresh)- A generous amount of cinnamon- One whole banana- Hemp milk or coconut milk
Kale Smoothie- Fresh kale with the spines pulled off- Frozen mixture of strawberry, banana, and mango- Fresh blueberries- A generous amount of cinnamon- Hemp milk or coconut milk
2. Scrambled EggsBaby loves to feed himself soft and slippery scrambled eggs. I make them with a lot of coconut oil, coconut or hemp milk, and mozzarella cheese to add even more nutrition to this easy meal. Baby gobbles them right up!
3. Kale ChipsI followed Brenna's directions at Almost All the Truth for making kale chips. Baby is loving them. I think he especially enjoys them because he always wants to try eating the crisp leaves outside and kale chips give him the opportunity to actually safely eat leaves. :-)baby eats with foot on table
Arpita of Up, Down & Natural gave me a great tip: Throw the leftover kale chips into a lasagna! Also, Rosemary of Rosmarinus Officinalis provided me with another excellent tip: If you want to eat the leftover chips a couple of days later, bake them in the oven for 5 minutes and they will crisp right up.
